Once a student is officially enrolled they have the option to use one of our computer systems while they are enrolled. However, they are not required to use our systems to access their coursework. Currently, QDA issues Windows 7, Windows 10, and Chromebooks. While students may request a specific operating system, inventory levels may dictate what type of device will be issued upon enrollment.
Students can access their courses from multiple device types, but QDA recommends using a laptop (Windows Based, MacBook, or Chromebook). For the best user experience students should have the following applications installed:
- Latest Version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer/Edge
- Word Processor (Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, Google Docs, etc.)
- Some courses may require Adobe Flash or Java (mainly advanced science courses)
- Stable Internet Connection
- Tablets (Android or iOS)
- Smart Phones (Android or iOS)
While QDA does note provide Internet Access, we provide Internet Reimbursement up to $40/month (per family - see our Internet Reimbursement Policy for more information).
Internet Type Recommendation: QDA recommends high speed Internet like cable or DSL to ensure that you have a reliable Internet connection.
Other Internet Providers: While QDA recommends high speed Internet we understand that some areas of Ohio do not offer adequate or affordable high speed Internet options. Students can also use mobile hotspots or satellite Internet. If you are using one of these options please contact QDA so we can use courses that do not rely heavily on videos. If you are looking for a Internet Service Provider in your area, please click here.
Bandwidth Limits: If you are using an Internet Service Provider that limits your bandwidth we recommend allocating around 1 gigabyte of data per month for coursework (this does not include system updates or personal use). We also recommend configuring Metered Connections for Windows 10 devices and Chrome's Data Saver for Chromebooks.
