Job Description

Position: Online High School Science Instructor


  • Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents
  • Manual grading completed no later than the next school day
  • Respond to student emails/messages no later than the next school day
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Instruction Program in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills
  • Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains 
  • Organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes 
  • Use of effective strategies in differentiating instruction 
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning 
  • Exhibit knowledge of standards-based curriculum and instructional programs and practices.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools 
  • Demonstrate effective data-based problem solving skills
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures
  • Ensure continuous student growth and achievement that is and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification
  • Maintain records of parent and student contact
  • Alert administrator when a student, parent, or guidance counselor fails to respond to attempts to communicate
  • Monitor extra learning opportunities (ELO) each week
  • Keep up to date with academic warning letters, truancy letters, and AIP conferences
  • Complete orientations with 24 hours of notification
  • Proctor testing sessions (in person and remotely) at designated testing 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Ohio Teaching Certification/Licensure
  • Current FBI & Fingerprint on file
  • Valid Driver’s License

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Provide direct consultation and guidance to students and parents on matters relating to courses, procedures, and learning strategies
  • Design the Virtual Instruction Program so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the Virtual Instruction Program’s curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting school, District and state goals.
